Design Regurgitation

Recently, a fellow Design student and I had the opportunity (through a university project) to make a short film stating our position on a design discipline. Our focus was on Industrial Design, and how we both felt (aesthetically) certain products that are supposedly modern, seem to be heavily influenced (in some instances appearing almost completely copied) from designs that had existed long before.

As the film could only be up to 60 seconds long, we decided to narrow down the subject matter, focussing our research on chairs. During our research we discovered many design classics had been 'regurgitated' again and again through the 'evolution' of chair design in the 20th/21st century. We decided to represent three examples of design purity that had been highly influential in later designs; the B306 Chaise Longue by Le Corbusier, Arne Jacobsen's Model 3107 or 'Seven' chair and Charles Rennie Mackintosh's Hillhouse chair.

Hey man, loving your blog template. Easy to navigate and relieving on the eye after looking at other messy blogs on the web. Awesome stuff.

Awesome theme for your vid - and oh so true - some academics even say that nothing new has been designed since the end of the modern movement
